LASIK operation and Post LASIK Care
What happens on the day of LASIK surgery?
On the day of surgery, you are advised not to drive personally.
At the clinic, you will first be given some eyedrops to clean and anaesthetize the eyes. The eyelids and surgical field will also be cleaned in preparation for the surgery. Surgery will then proceed and typically takes 10 minutes per eye. After the LASIK, you will be instructed on post-LASIK care and eyedrops that will need to be applied. Your doctor will review you again about 30 minutes thereafter before sending you home.
Typically the eyes will feel mild grittiness for 4-6 hours after LASIK. This will resolve over 4-6 hours. Vision is typically blurry during this period and will gradually improve over these few hours.
Post LASIK Eye Care
Your follow-up consults are typically on Day1 , Week 1, Month 1 and Month 6 after LASIK. You are advised to keep these important appointments which are intended to assess corneal flap healing, refractive stability and posssible side effects and late complications. You will also be prescribed with the appropriate eyedrops to facilitate your recovery.
What can I expect after LASIK?
Immediately after your LASIK procedure, it is common to experience mild grittiness for the first 4-6 hours. Vision is typically misty during this period. The gritty sensation resolves over the 4-6 hour period during which the vision sharpens. Vision typically improves to a good functional level by the following day. Dry eyes and night vision observations such as glare, haloes and reduced contrast sensitivity are common especially in the first 4-6 weeks and can take several months to resolve completely.
