Clear Vision, Renewed Freedom

LASIK is Safe and Effective

This is your chance to experience life without the constant need for glasses or contact lenses

What is LASIK?

LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) is a highly precise procedure that reshapes the cornea to correct myopia (short-sightedness), hyperopia (far-sightedness), and astigmatism.

Modern advancements in laser vision correction ensure that today’s procedures are more customized and safer than ever before. In general,  70-80% of patients with myopia will achieve 6/6 vision after LASIK, and more than 99% are able to attain a vision of 6/12 or better without the further need for glasses..

With LASIK and other forms of refractive surgery, our surgeons can now offer you opportunity to reduce and even eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses.

Age Range

LASIK is typically recommended for adults aged between 18 and 50 years old. Patients above 50 years may still be suitable but be aware that LASIK does not correct presbyopia ("lau hua").

Healthy Corneas

Suitable candidates should have adequate corneal thickness and no history of corneal disease or scarring that could impact the surgery.

Medication Check

Certain medications, such as oral steroids, or isotretinoin (for acne) may delay healing. It is best to be assessed only after these medications are stopped.

Are You a Candidate?

While LASIK is a life-changing procedure for many, there are specific guidelines to ensure safety and the best possible results.

Stable Prescription

Your prescription must be stable for at least one year. A steady refractive error ensures the laser correction remains effective for years to come.

General Health

Good overall physical health ensure your eyes can heal properly after the procedure. Conditions such as diabetes and autoimmune illnesses can impact that healing.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy and breastfeeding can lead to fluctuations in your prescription and in the shape of the cornea. It is best to delay the assessment to a later date.

Your Evaluation Journey

STEP 01

Detailed Clinical History

We begin by understanding your visual goals and reviewing your eye and general health. This helps us tailor the procedure to your lifestyle and visual demands.

STEP 02

Advanced Eye Measurements

Using state-of-the-art diagnostics, we perform corneal mapping and measure your eye length with precision scans to ensure the best surgical outcome. A careful refraction is also performed to confirm that your degree is within the limits of what can be corrected :- myopia of -10 dioptres, astigmatism of -5.0 dioptres, and hyperopia of +5.0 dioptres.

STEP 03

Dilated Clinical Exam

A dilated examination allows our specialists to check your retinal and optic nerve health, so as to ensure that your vision has not been compromised by other ocular issues.

STEP 04

Doctor Consultation

Finally, your surgeon reviews all findings with you, explains the best laser vision correction options, and answers any questions you might have.

What to Expect During the Procedure

The procedure takes only 30 minutes for both eyes to be completed. You will be awake, but anaesthetic eye drops ensure comfort throughout the process.

During the procedure, one laser machine is used to create a thin flap on the surface of the cornea. This flap is then opened up like a book cover, to allow the second laser to reshape the cornea in the precise shape to correct your power. Once completed, the flap is repositioned and left in place to heal without the need for sutures.

After some rest and instructions, you are done  and ready to go home! We advise that you are accompanied by a relative or friend, as the eyes can be teary and uncomfortable after the procedure.

Lenticule Extraction

Lenticule Extraction ( eg. SMILE ) is a minimally invasive, flapless procedure. It is often considered in patients who participate in contact sports or have very active lifestyles, as the small incision leaves the corneal surface more resistant to injury.

Alternatives to LASIK

While LASIK is an excellent choice for many, some patients may be better suited for other types of laser vision correction depending on their cornea's health and specific visual needs.

TransPRK

Trans-Epithelial Photorefractive Keratectomy is a 'no-touch' laser treatment performed directly on the surface of the cornea without a flap. This is an ideal option for patients with thin corneas, who are otherwise not suitable for LASIK or lenticule extraction.
