Dr Wong Chee Wai is a vitreoretinal surgeon and a visiting consultant at Singapore Eye & Vision. He is accredited by the Ministry of Health's Specialist Accreditation Board and has been practicing ophthalmology since 2009, with over 15 years of experience in retinal and macular disease.

 

He graduated from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, in 2007 and completed his postgraduate training in Ophthalmology in Singapore in 2015. He was awarded three Gold Medals for best performance in the Advanced Specialist Training Exit Examination in Ophthalmology, and is a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (FAMS).

 

Dr Wong went on to complete a PhD in ocular drug delivery at Utrecht University, funded by a National Medical Research Council Fellowship. His research focuses on myopic retinal disease, including the natural history of pathologic myopia, myopic macular degeneration and myopic choroidal neovascularisation. He has authored more than 116 peer-reviewed publications with an H-index of 36, and is ranked in the top 2% of the world's most-cited researchers (Stanford/Elsevier, 2022) and the top 0.3% worldwide in degenerative myopia by Expertscape. He is an invited speaker at international meetings including AAO, EURETINA, APAO and the World Ophthalmology Congress. He also serves as an executive committee member of the Singapore Society of Ophthalmology 

 

In clinical practice, Dr Wong performs surgery for retinal detachment, macular holes, epiretinal membranes and dislocated intraocular lenses, alongside the management of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic retinopathy. He also performs complex cataract surgery, including combined phaco-vitrectomy in eyes with concurrent retinal disease.
